A fan zone screen isn't just about showing the match or broadcast. It's a focal point that needs to anchor a crowd, handle unpredictable foot traffic, and deliver clear pictures to people standing at all angles and distances. Unlike a conference hall or exhibition stand screen, a fan zone works in the open, pulls viewers from multiple directions, and runs for hours without a break.
You're not just hiring a screen—you're creating a venue within a venue. That changes what matters: crowd safety, sightline coverage, power resilience, and weather protection all become critical planning points.
Plan for crowd density and flow
The first question: how many people will watch at once? A modest fan zone might expect 500–2,000 people; a large one can pull 5,000 or more. That affects screen size, spacing, and how you manage the viewing area.
Think about where people will stand:
Direct sightline area: the best views, closest to the screen, typically fills first.
Secondary zones: areas with decent angles but further back, where people circulate between the screen and other activities.
Standing-room edges: where people pause briefly or gather near bars, food or merchandise.

Rain: Screens must be fully weatherproofed. Exposed connectors, power distribution or cabling cause failures mid-event.
Wind: Large screens act like sails. You need solid, secure rigging. Temporary builds need windbreaks or lateral bracing.
Heat: Prolonged sun exposure stresses LED panels. Good ventilation and thermal management prevent picture degradation.
A fan zone screen that fails mid-match isn't just embarrassing—it kills the atmosphere and frustrates a crowd. Weatherproofing and redundancy aren't optional extras.
Power and cabling: don't underestimate this
Large LED screens consume 5–15kW depending on size and brightness. A fan zone screen running for 6–8 hours straight needs reliable, dedicated power.
Check your venue's power capacity before you book the screen. If the venue is a stadium, park or outdoor ground, power may be in fixed locations, far from your planned screen position. That means long cable runs, cable management, trip hazards, and potential voltage drop.
Plan for:
Three-phase power supply: Large screens usually need three-phase, not just standard domestic circuits.
Cable runs and earthing: Cables must be routed safely, away from foot traffic, properly grounded.
Redundancy: A backup generator or dual power feed keeps the screen alive if mains supply fails.
